Nipper Parent Membership
Our Junior Surf Lifesaving Program (JSLP) is safest, strongest, and most enjoyable when parents are actively involved. As the program has grown, so have our safety, risk management, training, and administration needs. This means we need more parent helpers, and we also need more parents with lifesaving qualifications to support the program.
Membership Expectations
To support our Nippers and help keep everyone safe, we ask all parents, caregivers, and guardians of Nippers to become Club members. All members must also hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC), as outlined in the Point Leo SLSC Working With Children Check Policy.
Important Note
Only parents, caregivers, or guardians who are Club members can actively assist with JSLP and Junior Surf Sports Program activities, in line with child-safe guidelines. We warmly encourage all Nipper parents, caregivers, and guardians to join the Club and be part of the Nipper experience.
Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- All Nipper parent members need a valid WWCC.
- This applies to everyone, including police officers.
- List both Point Leo SLSC and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) as volunteer organisations.
- Teachers must list both organisations on their VIT registration.
- Membership applications cannot be accepted until the Club receives your WWCC notice or VIT confirmation email.
- Read the WWCC Policy and Information for details.
- If both parents join, both need a valid WWCC or VIT registration.
- Please use the email and postal addresses listed on the WWCC page.
- There are no exceptions. Your child can only take part in our program once this is complete.

Parent Assistance
- One parent per family must be a Club member and help with the program.
- You do not need to be a swimmer to help.
- Complete the online Nipper Parent Assistance Form.
- Choose the area where you would like to assist.
- Your child’s membership can be accepted once this form is completed.
Nipper Board and Equipment Levy
- The compulsory Board and Equipment Levy is $50 per Nipper each year.
- This helps buy and maintain equipment for safe participation.
- Please pay this levy when you submit your membership application by ticking the $50 board levy for each Nipper on the Addon page.
- Your application can be accepted once this fee is paid.
Junior Surf Lifesaving Program (JSLP) Handbook
The Point Leo SLSC Junior Surf Lifesaving Program (JSLP) Handbook for the coming season will be available to download from this website closer to the start of the season. It includes the key information about the program. After you have read it, please email any questions to nippers@pointleoslsc.com.au.
Nippers are split into two groups in the JSLP:
Point Leo CUBS : the under 7s, under 8s, under 9s and under 10s
Point Leo LIONS : the under 11s, under 12s, under 13s, under 14s

Club Communication
- We send Club and Nipper updates by email before and during the season.
- Please read Club emails so you do not miss important information.
- Keep your email address up to date in your SLS Members Hub account.
- Add admin@pointleoslsc.com.au as a safe sender.
Our newsletter, “The Mine”, is emailed to all members each quarter and is also available to download from the Club website. We encourage you to read each issue. It includes Club news, activities, and interesting stories about the history of the Club.
Uniform Shop
- The Uniform Shop will open online and at the clubhouse.
- Compulsory items: orange club cap and pink high-visibility club singlet.
- Both must be worn at every Nipper session.
- Other items include bathers, hoodies, towels, bags, and gifts.
- Opening times will be shared by email.
- Please buy compulsory uniform items before the first Nipper session.
Swimming Lessons Essential for Nippers
- Nippers need to be capable swimmers to participate safely and confidently.
- If needed, please enrol your child in swimming lessons or squad training for Term 4.
- Please help your Nipper practise open-water swimming before the season starts.
- The Point Leo Nippers program is NOT a learn-to-swim program.
- All participants should be ready for the first day on 27th

- Strong swimming helps children stay safe and enjoy surf lifesaving.
- The Nippers program is not a learn-to-swim program.
- Please consider learn-to-swim classes if your child needs extra support.
- Ocean swimming can be challenging, even for strong pool swimmers.
- We aim to build confidence, ocean skills, and surf education.
- Every Junior member must complete the LSV Preliminary Assessment before water activities.
- The assessment must be completed with qualified Club assessors.
- Junior Preliminary Evaluations are part of the Club’s duty of care.
- They help assess swimming ability and manage risk.
- Extra supervision may be required if a child does not meet the evaluation level.
- Competition Skills Assessment is required for all U12–U14 competition.
- Competition Skills Assessment is also required for U9–U11 water events, excluding wades.
