Established 1955

The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) is the first patrol award that allows U14 and U15 members to join the patrols and provide water safety at Point Leo SLSC. The SRC course involves three days of training and then one day of assessment (four days in total). Once participants have obtained their SRC they will be able to join a patrol team as well as help with water safety for our Nippers.

It is expected that new SRC recipients will patrol and provide water safety support for the Boxing Day Swim Classic and the JSLP (Nippers). This is a great way for participants to put their new skills to the test and see the full Point Leo community in action! Participants will receive more information about patrols and water safety while on the course. The SRC award is also a requirement for U14 and U15 members wanting to compete at Surf Sport Youth Carnivals.

To be eligible for the SRC course, participants must be 13 years old on September 30th 2025. This year, Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club SRC course will be over two weekends, with no overnight stay. The onsite practical and theory training will be held from 8-30am to 4-30pm over two weekends on 6, 7, 13  and 14 (assessment day) December 2025. The cost of the course is $160. This covers patrol uniform, course drink bottle, sunscreen, a resuscitation face mask, training materials and a course t-shirt. Participants will need to download or view the SLSA Training Manual 35th Edition here. This is a large document so it may take a while to open.

As part of the Surf Rescue Certificate course, candidates will be involved in swimming and board paddling in the surf, rescue training, communication and resuscitation training. Candidates are required to have a minimum level of swimming proficiency (200m swim in 5 minutes or less, in a swimming pool) prior to training for their SRC (they are training to be lifesavers, therefore need to be able to swim well enough to rescue someone else!!).

To participate in any water activities, it is critical that all participants wear a high-vis singlet or rash vest (commonly, pink vest). You will be able to purchase a new vest from the uniform shop when it opens in November if you do not have a bright singlet or rashie. No high-vis, no water, no award.

Once you have completed the registration form you will be redirected to https://hub.sls.com.au/public/pay to pay your course fees by credit card through the SLSA Payment Gateway.

  • Choose Transaction “Course fee”
  • Record your child’s name and “SRC Course” in the Complete name/Meaningful payment details section. Please make sure you record your child’s name here as the person processing the payment should not have to look up member’s names for this. • Proceed to the credit card payment screen and follow the instructions on the screen to pay

Alternatively, you can pay by direct bank transfer to the club bank account. Please contact the club for these details if this is your prefered method of payment.
