We are currently waiting for information about the season’s Nipper COVID-19 guidelines from Life Saving Victoria.
Until the guidelines become available, we cannot make any decisions to process Nipper EOI’s.
We understand this is frustrating and challenging, however we thank you for your patience.
Thank you for submitting your registration of interest to participate in our Junior Surf Lifesaving Program (Nippers). You do not need to email us to advise you have registered. You will be contacted by Point Leo SLSC by mid to late October regarding the outcome of your registration.
Dates for the 2021/2022 JSLP are available from our Junior page on this website.
Junior Evaluations and Award Requirements
Click here for a summary of the LSV Junior Evaluations and Award Requirements.
Being able to swim competently is an integral part of making children safe at the beach as well as allowing them to actively participate and enjoy surf life saving activities. The Nippers Program is not a “learn to swim” program. We strongly encourage you to enrol your children in “learn to swim” classes depending on their current ability.
We do recognise that swimming in the ocean is a new experience for many children and that even competent pool swimmers can find this challenging at first. Our aim is to encourage children and to help develop their confidence and skills swimming in the ocean as well as provide surf education.
At the first session, it is an LSV prerequisite that every Junior member is required to participate in the Preliminary Assessment conducted by Club assessors, prior to any water activity training or competition being undertaken each season. Any child that does not meet the required evaluation level will require a higher level of supervision when involved in water based activities at the discretion of the club.
Competition Skills Evaluation is mandatory for U12-U14 to compete in ANY event and U9-U11 for water events only (excluding wade).
Should your child obtain a position in our program at least one parent/guardian will also be required to become a member of Point Leo SLSC and assist witht he running of the program. Parents should not join the club until they receive an email advising their Nipper has a place in the program. The parent(s) who joins must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and must list both Point Leo SLSC and Life Saving Victoria as volunteer organisations on it. We strongly recommend that you read our WWCC Policy and information so that you are aware of our requirements.
If you don’t already hold a valid WWCC we recommend you apply for one immediately (making sure to list both volunteer organisations). If you are offered a position in the program this will ensure that your memberships are processed quickly.
If you currently hold a valid WWCC we recommend that you update the volunteer organisations as per the WWCC Information so that if you are offered a position in the program your memberships are processed quickly.
We cannot accept any memberships, Nipper or parent, unless the parent member has met our WWCC requirements.
Thank you for registering your interest in our program.
