Registrations of Interest for the 2018/2019 Junior Surf Lifesaving Program (JSLP – Nippers) for children aged 6 to 13 as at 30th September 2018 are now closed. Registrations submitted prior to the closing date are currently being processed. If there are still vacancies in age groups after our list is processed we will re-open the registrations of interest in those age groups, so please check back after October 10 to see if there are any vacancies.
Please note that our groups are limited so that we can ensure that we run a high quality, and most importantly, a safe program. Therefore positions in the program are dependent on any vacancies we may have in age groups.
Should your child obtain a position in our program at least one parent/guardian will also be required to become a member of Point Leo SLSC. This person must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) as per the Point Leo SLSC In Working With Children Check Policy. We strongly recommend that you read this information carefully so that you are aware of our requirements. Please also read the information on the Junior page to gain an understanding of how the program operates.

Junior Evaluations and Award Requirements for 2018/19
Being able to swim competently is an integral part of making children safe at the beach as well as allowing them to actively participate and enjoy surf life saving activities. The nippers program is not a “learn to swim” program. We strongly encourage you to enrol your children in “learn to swim” classes depending on their current ability.
We do recognise that swimming in the ocean is a new experience for many children and that even competent pool swimmers can find this challenging at first. Our aim is to encourage children and to help develop their confidence and skills swimming in the ocean as well as provide surf education.
At the first session, it is an LSV prerequisite that every junior member is required to participate in the Preliminary Assessment conducted by Club assessors, prior to any water activity training or competition being undertaken each season. Any child that does not meet the required evaluation level will require a higher level of supervision when involved in water based activities at the discretion of the club.
Competition Skills Evaluation is mandatory for U12-U14 to compete in ANY event and U9-U11 for water events only (excluding wade).

All nipper parents who join the club must hold a valid Working With Children Check with LSV and Point Leo SLSC listed as volunteer organisations as per our Policy; ie if both parents join the club then BOTH parents must hold a WWCC.
If you don’t already hold a valid WWCC we recommend you apply for one immediately. If you are offered a position in the program this will ensure that your memberships are processed quickly.
If you currently hold a valid WWCC we recommend that you update the volunteer organisations as per the WWCC Information sheet so that if you are offered a position in the program your memberships are processed quickly.
We cannot accept any memberships, nipper or parent, unless the parent members have met our WWCC requirements.
Thank you for your interest in our program.
